The way of snow

Snow is a pretty great way to recreate an international living experience in the States. Snow isolates everyone and yet creates more opportunities for connection and makes every piece of human interaction more meaningful. Snow can be a beautiful backdrop or a frustrating obstacle.

The day after the snow began we were supposed to have dinner with friends. They couldn’t get to the grocery store so they took a raincheck on dinner, but we decided to walk over in the afternoon to play anyway. It seemed so natural. The friends live a mile and a half away. We popped both kids in carriers and chatted while we walked. It brought back so many memories of dirt roads and bike taxis and walled neighborhoods.

It is fun mix up our two lives. It heals my heart a little bit to feel like I’m in Rwanda when I’m actually walking down 124th avenue.
