A super awesome thing about America
Part of our transition has been a big road trip from Texas to Washington. We spent one night camping at the Grand Canyon along the way and it was a highlight of the trip! It was the first time for all of us to visit and we definitely want to go back. I’d like to wait until we don’t have a small child who is interested jumping though.
We stopped at a couple of other national parks on the trip and decided that we should buy a national parks passport. My family had one growing up and I remember enjoying filling it with stamps. For anyone not familiar, the passport has information about all of the national parks. There is also space to put a “passport stamp” from each park in the book. The stamps are sometimes difficult to locate, but there is nothing more satisfying than everyone participating in the stamping of the passport.
There are a lot of things that feel strange and busy about America right now, but the national parks help to balance that out. They seem to be a unique way to reacquaint ourselves with our home country and a fantastic way to spend time together as a family. We’ve already taken a family backpacking trip and look forward to more camping and hiking and visitor center-ing in the future!
