Father’s Day Fun

Robin wanted a nice breakfast at the Serena hotel for Father’s Day. We thoroughly enjoyed our croissants, tea/coffee, juices, crepes, thinly sliced meats, cheeses, fruit, beans and whatever else they have at the Serena that makes the breakfasts so so good. Our waitress brought an extra serving of coffee because Ellie Jo started saying, “Coffee? Coffee!” when Robin ordered his. We told EJ to feel special, but didn’t let her drink it.

While I waited for the bill, Robin and Ellie Jo went down to the pool to watch the swimmers and enjoy the blue water. Ellie Jo started wading it the water and ended up trying to “swim” in the shallow part. It was all good until the pool attendant took her name and informed Robin that we would be paying 12,000 francs for letting her swim. TWENTY DOLLARS!!! Robin tried and tried to get out of it, but there was no way. We had to pay. So we decided to let her keep swimming and playing until she was exhausted. It was probably the only chance she’ll have all week to do something on her own terms and not be taken away too early (like wanting to spend every minute watching our new kittens that were just born this morning). She played for about 45 minutes and couldn’t have been happier. I think it was a $20 well spent.

  1. That is outrageous! Twenty bucks for baby to play in the shallows of the pool?! Hope your trip back to the states is as easy as possible. Who’s going to take your kittens when you leave Rwanda? Are any of your animals coming with you?

  2. Would it be crass to say I hope she peed in the pool? šŸ™‚
