The View

This is the view from our front porch. I can see the herd of cattle move from field to field as the days progress. I can watch the rains come down the valley and engulf our house. We eat our breakfasts out on the porch enjoying this very view.

But notice how unobstructed the view looks. No glass bottles or razor wire on top of the wall. And that has proven to be problematic.

Thieves came over this wall on Sunday night. The front door had been left unlocked (totally our fault). They took a few things and left the doors wide open. None of us woke up.

Now it feels like half the district is putting surveillance on the other half of the district to find our stuff. There is even someone at the phone company monitoring the calls of our night guard. The community around us is being really helpful (not so the police!).

So many people are optimistic about recovering at least a few items. The iPod and my camera are probably gone, but Jacob and Mike’s bicycles are too obvious to be sold. We’re hoping to have a good news update in the next few weeks.

In the mean time I’ll be posting old pictures and shopping for a new camera.

  1. So sorry. Expensive price to pay.

  2. That’s terrible! The more I read your blog, the more I realize how I’ve taken my country for granted. When we call the police, they’ve never taken more than four minutes to arrive… even over small things.
So glad you and your family are safe. Happy shopping!

  3. Great view! 🙂
    Bummer about the theft! 😦
