A Rwandan Statistic

Our umudugudu sent a man around today to measure the arm circumference of all the babies under the age of five. We’ve been around long enough that our household is counted just like everybody else. I have a feeling that the Rwandan health department wasn’t really looking to promote healthy mzungu babies, but there she is! She’ll be getting her little arm measured every two months to make sure that she’s growing.

Oh our life…

  1. I didn’t know an arm circumference indicated good (or poor) health for a baby?!

    • Well I’m not exactly sure that the first measurement by itself tells you anything. My guess is that if the arm measurement goes down in subsequent months then they suspect malnourishment?
