We have a fifth grader named Sander (pictured is not Sander. I’m trying to not post pictures of school kids without permission). This is his first school year in English and he’s trying very hard to get the hang of English classroom instructions. He’s so smart in math though. This week we’ve started doing special work with “mental math.” This has been Sander’s chance to shine. The kid can do a huge number of calculations in his head, very quickly. I told the kids that he was a true mental mathematician.
Apparently they misunderstood me because I overheard them today calling him a “mental math magician.”
